In early 2013 after a footy match and a beer, Musica Copa organisers Paul Stix and Martin Novosel realised they both had a common interest and goal to set up a charitable football tournament in Australia for their music pals. What better way to hang out with your industry peers than by competing in a day of sport whilst raising money for charity?
And so in December 2013, Musica Copa was born and 12 music industry companies were invited to compete in the inaugural one-day tournament. Stix and Novosel invested their own money to ensure a respectable donation was made to charity. The following year Musica Copa increased to 16 teams and thanks to some significant investment from sponsors, $12,000 was raised and donated between three very worthy charities.
In 2016, 20 music companies are confirmed to compete and the action kicks off on Friday 5th February.
For the first time since it’s inception the lads are now opening up the competition to the public with a daytime tournament on Saturday February 6! Local teams will now get to experience the Musica Copa environment whilst playing for prizes.
