Games are short, fast, and rotate players through regularly, so fitness level isn't a barrier to joining in. What to expect at a 5-a-side game with KIKOFF

At Northern Beaches, all four pitches are caged with futsal markings, floodlit, and open year-round. At Canterbury, the four pitches are also caged, with the ball staying in play off the walls rather than going out for a throw-in. Both venues are built for exactly this kind of game: fast touches, quick restarts, no lost balls rolling into a car park.

Arrival time and check-in

Arrive with enough time to find parking, get changed, and locate your pitch. Staff or your captain will confirm your team sheet before kick-off. If you've registered as an individual rather than with a team, this is when you'll usually meet your new teammates for the first time.

What to bring

Shin pads are expected at every game. Bring a shirt that isn't the same colour as your opposition (bibs are often provided if there's a clash), suitable indoor or turf boots, and a water bottle. Most players bring a second shirt for after the game.

How subs work

Rolling subs are standard in social 5-a-side. Players come off and go back on through an interchange area near the halfway line, usually without stopping play. Talk to your captain before kick-off about how your team wants to rotate, especially if it's your first game and you're still finding your position.

Who referees

Games are refereed by KIKOFF staff or appointed officials, not by players. They'll blow for fouls, handballs, and restarts, and keep the game moving. You don't need to know every rule in detail before you turn up — the referee manages the game so you can focus on playing.

Joining a spring season this week

Spring registration is open now. At KIKOFF Northern Beaches, adult competitions such as Monday Over 35 Mens, Tuesday Over 40s Mixed, and Wednesday Mixed KIKOFF are all running, delivered with our partner NBFA, with team entry at $1,700 and most starting 7 September 2026 through to 20 December 2026. If you're on your own without a team, individual junior spots are available in several Tuesday and Wednesday age groups at $210, and solo adult players can look at individual entry options where offered. At KIKOFF Eastern Suburbs, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday Mens Division competitions start 28 September 2026, with individual entry at $295 if you don't have a full side.

Solo player, no team yet

If you're turning up without a squad, individual registration is built for exactly that. You're placed into a team and meet everyone on the night or before your first game. It's a straightforward way to get playing without needing to organise anyone else. For a casual, no-commitment option instead, open games are worth checking too.
