Outdoor 5-a-side and 7-a-side football centres in NSW: the complete guide

· 12 min read · Oli Bramley

Floodlit outdoor 5-a-side pitches at KIKOFF Canterbury, Lakemba

There are 21 dedicated outdoor synthetic small-sided football venues in NSW where you can hire a pitch or join a 5, 6 or 7-a-side league — from Curl Curl to Caringbah, Rooty Hill to Speers Point. KIKOFF runs three of them. This guide lists every centre we know of: formats, pitch counts, hire prices and who runs the leagues, region by region. If we're full, someone here won't be.

Start with ours

We've been running social football since 2013. Three venues, all outdoor synthetic, all floodlit:

  • KIKOFF Canterbury — 573a Punchbowl Road, Lakemba. Four caged 5-a-side pitches, year-round. Adult leagues run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights; the Spring/Summer season kicks off 14 September 2026 at $1,500 a team for 14 weeks plus finals. Junior Summer Soccer starts 12 October. Also coaching, holiday camps, parties, open games and casual hire at $140 a booking. Book a pitch · Adult leagues
  • KIKOFF Eastern Suburbs — 79 Corish Circuit, Eastgardens. Four 6-a-side pitches plus one 5-a-side, played on open pitches with kick-in restarts rather than cages. This venue runs a spring season, September to December: Hensley Spring 6-a-side 2026 starts 28 September, Monday to Thursday nights including an Over 45s division and two ladies nights, 10 weeks plus finals. Casual hire $125 a booking. Book a pitch · Adult leagues
  • KIKOFF Northern Beaches — Bennett Street, Curl Curl, on the grounds of Harbord Bowling Club. Four floodlit 5-a-side pitches played to futsal-style rules. Our summer leagues are run with the NBFA and start 7 September 2026 — ladies, over 35s, over 40s mixed and juniors — and the Northern Beaches Women's Shelter Cup is on 18 October. Coaching, camps, parties, open games and hire at $140 a booking. Book a pitch · Adult leagues

If we can't fit you in

A straight word about availability: popular weeknights fill first, and peak pitch times go early. Canterbury and Curl Curl run year-round; Eastern Suburbs at Eastgardens is a spring season, September to December — the 2026 season starts 28 September and registrations are open now.

If we can't fit you in this week, or it's the Eastgardens off-season, you should still play. What follows is everyone else running proper outdoor synthetic small-sided football in NSW, described as accurately as we can manage. We'd rather you got a game somewhere good than didn't get one.

Canterbury-Bankstown and South-West Sydney

KIKOFF Canterbury is ours (above). Nearby:

Bankstown Community Football — Amour Park, Iluka Street, Revesby. Floodlit all-weather FIFA-licensed synthetic with two pitch sizes, running 5-a-side competitions across autumn, winter and summer plus the Morris Iemma Futsal Competition, along with casual hire, parties and an academy. Bookings and registrations go through the phone rather than a website, so ring 0431 297 030 for current season dates.

Ultimate Soccer — 405 The Horsley Drive, Fairfield. Ten FIFA-grade pitches in total: seven 5-a-side and three 7-a-side, all fully enclosed with rebound boards and roof netting, so the ball stays in play. It's a $6m floodlit facility with an elevated clubhouse, changing rooms and free parking, built inside the grounds of Fairfield High School under a partnership with the school and the Department of Education — the school uses it by day, the public by night and on weekends. Leagues run at $100 a team per week with qualified referees, and there's pitch hire, bubble soccer, tournaments, parties and coaching.

Emerson Park and Endeavour Sports Park futsal courts — Fairfield City Council built two pairs of dedicated outdoor synthetic futsal courts, at Emerson Street Reserve in Wetherill Park and at Endeavour Sports Park in Fairfield West (where one of the two courts sits under a covered awning). They're bookable online around the clock, you get a PIN for the gate, they're open 7am to 10pm, and at roughly $27–$30 an hour they are comfortably the cheapest small-sided hire we found anywhere in Sydney. No leagues — just a court, a gate code and your mates.

Eastern Suburbs

KIKOFF Eastern Suburbs is ours, and it's seasonal (above). For the rest of the year, or for a night we can't cover:

Mutch Park — 53 Wentworth Avenue, Pagewood, about two kilometres from our Eastgardens pitches. Outdoor synthetic multi-purpose courts run by Sydney Sports Management Group in partnership with Bayside Council, with casual futsal hire at $85 an hour and 5v5 Futsal running Wednesday night men's and mixed competitions at $1,250 a team for 12 weeks. Worth knowing: 5v5 runs back-to-back seasons all year, so this is the obvious option in the months our Eastgardens season isn't on.

Parklands Sports Centre — corner of Anzac Parade and Lang Road, Moore Park. Eight FIFA-approved all-weather 5-a-side fields under lights, and the competition is deep: six men's divisions on Monday nights alongside mixed and women's, at $1,125 a team. They also run 7v7 on Wednesdays and Thursdays at Sydney Swans HQ for $1,600. Full-field hire is $225–$330 an hour depending on time.

Inner West

Fraser Fives at Sydney Portugal Community Club — Fraser Park, 100 Marrickville Road, Marrickville. Three all-weather floodlit courts at a member-owned club that's been going since 1961, with men's, women's, mixed, junior and corporate leagues running year-round with referees included. Hire is $100 for an hour or $200 for two, courts are open daily until midnight, there's free parking and it's a short walk from Sydenham station. Rubber soles only — no studs.

Strathfield Sports Club — 4a Lyons Street, Strathfield, parking off Morwick Street. Two courts with a FIFA two-star rating and shock pads under the turf, open 8am to 10pm, at $110 before 5pm and $130 after 5pm and on weekends. No leagues here — it's hire only, including permanent weekly bookings, which makes it a good fit if you just want the same slot every week without a season commitment.

Northern Beaches and the Lower North Shore

KIKOFF Northern Beaches is ours, at the Bowlo in Curl Curl (above). Our leagues there are run with the NBFA — the Northern Beaches Futsal Association, who have been running 5-a-side on the beaches for around twenty years across a handful of venues including our Curl Curl pitches, the Calabria Club at Manly Vale and St Paul's at Manly. You can register through us or through them; it's the same competition.

Manly Vale Calabria Community Club — Lot 1 Campbell Parade, Manly Vale. Four outdoor floodlit futsal courts, which the club will tell you are the original ones on the Northern Beaches, at $80 an hour with a one-hour minimum. Open 4pm to 10pm weekdays and from midday on weekends. There's a pizzeria and a licensed bar on site, which is not nothing after a Tuesday night game. Court bookings are by phone on (02) 9948 6677 or through the form on their site; leagues there are NBFA's.

Pittwater RSL Futsal — 82 Mona Vale Road, Mona Vale. The biggest outdoor futsal set-up on the beaches by some margin: six all-weather artificial turf courts plus three international-size pitches, all fully outdoors, with undercover seating and changerooms. Hire is $60 an hour during the day, $70 after 6pm on weekdays, or $110 for the international court. They run their own competitions in three twelve-week seasons a year — Monday to Thursday, men's opens and over 35s, ladies opens and over 35s, and mixed — and you book online.

Willis Park — 325A Eastern Valley Way, Middle Cove. Two outdoor synthetic courts with marked lines and futsal goals at a Willoughby Council centre, open 7am to 10pm daily, at $80 an hour off-peak and $100 peak. 5v5 Futsal runs competitions here six nights a week with divisions one through five plus women's, mixed and over 35s — the deepest small-sided ladder on that side of the harbour.

Ryde and the North-West

Ryde Multisport & Racquet Centre — 16–18 Epping Road, North Ryde, formerly Tennis World North Ryde. The site was redeveloped and relaunched in 2025 leaning heavily into padel and pickleball, but two outdoor synthetic futsal courts came through it intact, and 5v5 Futsal runs men's competitions on Mondays and Wednesdays, mixed on Tuesdays, and a big junior night on Fridays.

Western Sydney and Sydney Olympic Park

Wanderers Fives — the Wanderers Centre of Football at Rooty Hill. Nine dedicated all-weather 5-a-side pitches, opened in 2023 and run by the Western Sydney Wanderers themselves. Competitions run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, and casual hire is open to anyone at $110 an hour peak (weeknights 6–11pm), $90 off-peak and $80 for schools. Hire is arranged by enquiry rather than a self-serve calendar, so email ahead. They also do parties, school groups and corporate days.

Sydney Football Centre — Sydney Olympic Park. A FIFA-approved synthetic pitch that takes games up to 8-a-side, or splits into two half fields that suit 5-a-side, plus two international futsal-sized fields. Hire is $160 an hour for the full field and $80 for a half, with permanent weekly bookings available and their own competitions to register for. It's the most convenient option in this guide if you're coming by train.

Sutherland Shire

5sports — 125 The Boulevard, Caringbah. Eight artificial courts at 18m × 32m, plus a full field available by enquiry, with their own 5-a-side competitions — Summer 2026 registrations are open — and coaching run by a handful of academies including Little Kickers for the small ones. Worth knowing before you plan a season: they've been building an indoor centre over two of the old outdoor courts and resurfaced the main field over the summer, so ring ahead on (02) 9540 6555 if you need a specific set-up.

Newcastle and the Hunter

Football FIVE5 — Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility, Park Road, Speers Point. This is the big one outside Sydney: Northern NSW Football's home of football, which they describe as a dozen dedicated synthetic pitches all under lights, and the only official Football FIVE5 facility in the state. Summer leagues draw somewhere around 250 teams, there are winter and autumn seasons too, Fast FIVE5 for juniors, a Kick On for Women program, and pitch hire if you just want a run. If you're anywhere between Newcastle and the lake, this is your answer.

Central Coast

Soccer5s Tuggerah — the Central Coast Mariners' Centre of Excellence on Bryant Drive, Tuggerah. Eight 3G all-weather 5-a-side pitches and two 7-a-side, with weekly adult and youth leagues, pitch hire, parties and coaching. One of only two Soccer5s centres in the country.

Illawarra and the South Coast

Honestly: there's no dedicated outdoor small-sided centre down here that we could find. What there is, is good — Football South Coast runs five-a-side competitions on the FIFA-accredited synthetic at Ian McLennan Park, Kembla Grange, with mixed on Mondays, men's social on Tuesdays and all-age women's plus over 40s on Wednesdays, alongside their Senior Summer Sixes. The synthetic is also hireable through them.

Far North Coast

Voyager Tennis Tweed Heads — Arkinstall Park, Cunningham Street, Tweed Heads South. Two floodlit synthetic-grass futsal courts for hire inside a multi-sport tennis centre. Small, but it's a genuine outdoor synthetic small-sided option in a part of the state that doesn't have one otherwise.

Comps that run on the big synthetics

Plenty of good small-sided football in NSW isn't played at a dedicated centre at all — it's run by competition operators on club and council synthetics. If none of the venues above suit your night or your postcode, these are worth a look:

  • Super 6 Soccer — 6-a-side since 1997, on synthetics at Heffron Park (Maroubra), West Epping Park and Cooke Park (Belfield), with age groups from under 6s to over 45s.
  • 365 Soccer Sixes — 6-a-side on the FIFA-certified synthetic at Lambert Park, Leichhardt. Their spring competition runs 14 September to 14 December.
  • Manly Warringah Summer Football — 6-a-side summer competition on the synthetic at Cromer Park.
  • City of Sydney competitions — council-run 5-a-side and 7-a-side on the synthetics at Gunyama Park (Zetland) and Perry Park (Alexandria), weeknights.
  • St George Futsal — junior, ladies, open and mixed futsal at Poulton Park, South Hurstville.
  • North West Sydney Football summer football — 6v6 from October at Christie Park, Macquarie Park.
  • Ryde Community Sports Centre — six-a-side summer competitions on the outdoor synthetic at ELS Hall Park.
  • CCFives — Central Coast Football's summer 5-a-side at Pluim Park, Lisarow, from under 5s up.
  • Russell Lea FC Sixes — Thursday night 6-a-side on the Strathfield Park synthetics, October to December.

Football NSW also keeps a summer football locator covering club-run small-sided competitions across the state, from Dubbo to Merimbula.

What this list is not

We've kept this to outdoor synthetic venues that are built or marked for small-sided football, because that's a specific thing to go looking for. It leaves out a few categories worth naming. Indoor centres are their own world — Camellia, Five Dock, Cook + Phillip and the community halls the NBFA uses at Beacon Hill and Curl Curl all run good futsal, just under a roof on a hard floor. Council full-size synthetics like Perry Park, Jamison Park at Penrith and the Heffron Park field can be split for small-sided games and are hireable, but they're fields you divide rather than centres built for fives. And school facilities — St Paul's at Manly, for instance, which the NBFA uses — aren't open for public hire.

How to choose

Caged or open? Caged pitches with rebound boards — ours at Lakemba and Curl Curl, Ultimate Soccer, Wanderers Fives — keep the ball in play, so the game is faster and there are almost no stoppages. Open pitches like our Eastgardens ones restart with kick-ins and play a bit more like a small version of the eleven-a-side game.

Five, six or seven? Fives are relentless — the smallest pitch, the most touches, the hardest hour of cardio. Sixes and sevens give you more room, more passing and a squad that copes better when someone pulls out on the day.

Futsal rules or 5-a-side rules? Worth checking, because they're different games. Futsal-style competitions use line markings and kick-ins; cage football uses the boards. Neither is better, but turning up expecting one and getting the other is a strange first ten minutes.

What if it rains? Synthetic is the whole point — every venue here drains and plays through rain. Lightning is the thing that stops play, not weather generally. Check each venue's policy.

No team? Most operators here will place individuals into a side, including us. You can also list yourself on the KIKOFF Transfer Market, our noticeboard where adult players post their availability and team managers come looking.

What should it cost? Casual hire across the state runs from about $27 an hour at the Fairfield council courts to around $140 at peak times in a staffed centre. Team entry for a season lands roughly between $1,100 and $1,900 depending on format, length and venue. If a quote sits well outside that, ask what's included — referees, balls, bibs and finals are not a given everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I play 5-a-side soccer in Sydney?

There are dedicated outdoor synthetic centres across the city: Lakemba, Eastgardens and Curl Curl (KIKOFF), Caringbah, Fairfield, Revesby, Marrickville, Strathfield, Manly Vale, Mona Vale, Middle Cove, Pagewood, North Ryde, Moore Park, Rooty Hill, Sydney Olympic Park and Wetherill Park. Most offer casual hire, weekly leagues or both.

What's the difference between 5-a-side, 6-a-side and futsal?

Five-a-side is the smallest and fastest, often played in a cage with rebound boards. Six and seven-a-side use bigger pitches and more passing. Futsal uses line markings, kick-in restarts and a low-bounce ball. Many outdoor venues run futsal-style rules on synthetic turf rather than true indoor futsal.

How much does it cost to hire a 5-a-side pitch in Sydney?

Roughly $27 to $140 an hour. Fairfield Council's futsal courts are about $27–$30, Manly Vale is $80, Mutch Park $85, Willis Park $80–$100, Strathfield $110–$130, and staffed centres including KIKOFF sit around $125–$140 a booking at peak times.

Can I play if I don't have a full team?

Yes. Most competitions accept individual registrations and place you in a side, and drop-in open games exist at several venues. KIKOFF also runs a free Transfer Market where adult players list their availability for team managers to browse.

Do games get cancelled when it rains?

Rarely. Every venue in this guide is synthetic and built to drain, so games go ahead in the wet. Lightning is the usual reason play stops. Check the venue's specific wet-weather policy.

Where can I play outdoor 5-a-side near Newcastle, the Central Coast or Wollongong?

Newcastle and the Hunter: Football FIVE5 at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility, Speers Point. Central Coast: Soccer5s at the Mariners' Centre of Excellence, Tuggerah. Illawarra: there's no dedicated centre, but Football South Coast runs five-a-side on the synthetic at Ian McLennan Park, Kembla Grange.

When do summer 5-a-side seasons start in Sydney?

Most start in September and October. In 2026: NBFA's summer season at Curl Curl starts 7 September, KIKOFF Canterbury 14 September, 365 Soccer Sixes 14 September, KIKOFF Eastern Suburbs 28 September and Parklands' spring 5v5 on 12 October. Registrations usually open a month or two before.
