Summer soccer Sydney 2026 starts 7 September

Winter club football is done for another year, and that means it is time to find your summer soccer Sydney fix. KIKOFF runs weeknight social leagues at three venues across the city, starting from Monday 7 September 2026 through to late in the year. Whether you want caged 5-a-side, futsal-style rules or open-pitch 6-a-side, there is a competition kicking off close to home. Registrations are open now for all three launches, and you can enter as a full team or as an individual who gets placed onto one.

This is a round-up of what is starting and when, so you can pick your night, sort your team or go it alone, and get a game booked in before the good time slots fill.

What counts as summer soccer in Sydney

Once winter club football finishes in August, players and kids shift to midweek small-sided football through summer. It is social, it is shorter, and it runs on synthetic pitches under lights. KIKOFF sits alongside your winter club, not against it — plenty of players use summer 5-a-side and 6-a-side to stay sharp between seasons.

Northern Beaches: summer 5-a-side kicks off first

At KIKOFF Northern Beaches in Curl Curl, the summer program is first off the mark. It is 5-a-side on floodlit synthetic pitches with futsal-style rules — no cage, kick-ins from the line. Competitions here start Monday 7 September 2026 and run through to Sunday 20 December 2026. These summer 5-a-side Sydney competitions are run with our partner, the Northern Beaches Futsal Association (NBFA), and cover men's, women's, mixed and junior nights across the week.

Canterbury: caged 5-a-side from 14 September

At KIKOFF Canterbury in Lakemba, the pitches are caged, so the ball stays in play off the walls and the game keeps moving. Adult competitions here start Monday 14 September 2026 and run through to Sunday 29 November 2026, with nights on offer from Monday through Sunday.

Eastern Suburbs: open-pitch 6-a-side from 28 September

KIKOFF Eastern Suburbs in Eastgardens only trades through the September to December window, which makes it the true seasonal one on this list. Pitches here are open, not caged, with kick-in restarts across four 6-a-side pitches and one 5-a-side pitch. The 6-a-side Eastern Suburbs competitions start Monday 28 September 2026 and finish Friday 18 December 2026, spread across Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Team entry vs individual entry

You can register two ways. Bring a full team and pay the team entry fee, which locks in your squad and your preferred night where spots allow. Or register as an individual — KIKOFF places you onto a team that needs players, so you do not need a full side to get a game. Both options are open across most competitions listed here, so grab some mates or just turn up solo and get sorted with a team.

What to bring on the night

  • Shin pads — required at all venues.
  • Non-marking boots or turf shoes for synthetic pitches.
  • A light and dark shirt, in case of a colour clash.
  • Water bottle — Sydney summer nights still get warm under lights.

Turn up 15 minutes before kick-off on your first night to confirm your team and grade. Games run to a fixed format each week, so once you are in, you just show up and play.

FAQs

When does summer soccer start in Sydney for 2026?

The first kick-off is Monday 7 September 2026, for Northern Beaches 5-a-side competitions run with NBFA. Canterbury's adult competitions start Monday 14 September 2026, and Eastern Suburbs 6-a-side starts Monday 28 September 2026. Junior competitions at Canterbury start Monday 12 October 2026.

Do I need a full team to register?

No. Most competitions accept individual registrations as well as full teams. If you register as an individual, you get placed onto a team that needs players, so you can enter solo and still get a game each week.

Is Eastern Suburbs 5-a-side or 6-a-side?

Eastern Suburbs runs 6-a-side on open, uncaged pitches with kick-in restarts. It also has one 5-a-side pitch on site, but the league competitions there are 6-a-side.

What is NBFA and why are they involved?

NBFA is the Northern Beaches Futsal Association, our partner for the Northern Beaches summer competitions. They help run the men's, women's, mixed and junior nights at Curl Curl alongside KIKOFF.

What is included in the entry fee?

Entry fees cover your season of weekly games, including a referee and pitch hire for fixtures. For the full breakdown of what is and is not included, see our help article on what's included in entry fees.

Does Eastern Suburbs run all year?

No. Eastern Suburbs is seasonal and only trades from September to December. Canterbury and Northern Beaches are open year-round.

Where can I check the game rules before my first night?

Read through our league game rules before you play, so you know how kick-ins, cages and scoring work at each venue.
